Hiring a photographer can be a big decision and it can also come with a lot of questions or concerns. Here are the most common questions and concerns I hear.

Our work and family schedule is so hectic, I don’t know when the best time to schedule a session would be. I hear ya. There just isn’t enough time in the day to get it all done, right? You lay in bed thinking about all you have to do and wonder how you’re going to manage it.  Scheduling a photo session seems overwhelming.  Well, I like to think I’m pretty flexible with scheduling. I only schedule a limited number of sessions a month in order to provide the best customer service possible. Need a weekend? No problem. Need to schedule it after naptime? Sure.  Let’s work together to find the perfect time for your photo session.

What if my child doesn’t cooperate during our family photo session?
I’m going to let you in on a little secret—no kid cares about having their photo taken! They are more interested in exploring the new environment they are in. I get that, in fact, I prefer it. My favorite photos are the ones where I capture a child in a genuine moment of happiness.  During the pre-session consultation I will ask you questions about your child(ren) such as what is their favorite song (I may bust out a horrid rendition of the “Wheels on the Bus”, but bear with me, it usually elicits a smile), or do they like Super Heroes (que simiulated hand webbing, if that’s even a thing). Knowing a bit about your kids before hand helps me build a rapport with them during the session, resulting in more relaxed photos.

My husband/partner/significant other hates having their photo taken.
Well, this isn’t a question technically, but I hear this all the time as a concern. I get it, I don’t really like having my photo taken either. I can tell you though that I strive for the most natural photos possible. Yes, there might be a few posed photos where looking at the camera is needed, but my style of photography will have you and your significant other interacting with your child(ren) and capturing real emotions. I usually hear at the end of the session, “Wow, that wasn’t so bad after all!"

What if my newborn baby won’t sleep, is fussy, or needs to eat during our newborn session?
I can pretty much guarantee all three of these will be the case, I mean we are a talking about a newborn baby that doesn’t care about the “rules”.  As a mother of two and having recently just gotten out of the newborn phase myself I understand what makes babies tick, how to soothe them, and how to exhibit just plain ole patience! Adapting the session to fit the baby’s mood is normal. There is no need to worry, taking breaks for feedings, changings and snuggling are all part of the process.

I doubt I will want to have my photo taken after just having had a baby. Do I have to be in them?
Yes. Period. I am documenting one of the most special times in life and you are part of that story I’m telling. You are a mother, either for the first time or again, and the bond between you and your tiny new baby needs to be captured. I know, because I’m speaking from experience—you’ll be glad you have photos with you in them, and so will your child when he/she grows up.

I know I want photos taken of my family, but I don’t know what I want to do with them. Everyone just gets the digitals, right?
Worry not, I don’t just leave you hanging after your images have been processed and enhanced and leave you to figure out how to print and display them.  I’m a full-service photographer who believes in quality printing and products and dreams of adding interior designer to my resume one day. Approximately two weeks after your session we’ll meet again at your home to view your images for the first time. You’ll have a chance to touch and feel the products I offer, ask questions, and actually see how your photos will look displayed on your walls. It’s a super helpful process, I promise. The end result? Finished artwork that is ready to be showcased in your home as a daily reminder of the love you share with your family. And a bonus: you don’t have to add printing photos or buying frames to your to-do list because I take care of it for you.

But wait, what about those digitals? Can I buy them?
Yes, yes, yes, you can purchase the digital files and I have a lab I recommend printing through. Please note, digital files are not included with the session fee. They must be purchased separately if digital files is the route you wish to go.

What should we wear?

  • Coordiate your outfits. Pick a color scheme and choose colors and patterns that coordinate.
  • Keep your home décor in mind so when you’re displaying your images they compliment your style.
  • Accessorize! Have fun with hats, scarves, headbands, bowties, and jewelry.
  • Stay away from clothes with logos or cartoon characters on them. They can be distracting and take away from the image.

Feeling better about scheduling your photo session now? I thought so.
